Florian Schommer was commissioned by Penguin Press to create artwork for ‘Day of the Oprichnik’ and ‘The Blizzard’, two novels by contemporary Russian writer Vladimir Sorokin, published as Penguin Modern Classics in November 2018.
The speculative and often dark nature of both novels was the perfect foil for Florian’s imagination. As objects, the books complement each other beautifully with their contrasting colour palettes and richly rendered imagery.
