Biography

Mona Eing and Michael Meissner are an illustrator team based in central Germany, where they live with their two children. With over a decade of experience as designers and several years working closely as a creative duo, they have developed a unique visual voice that bridges the gap between tradition and contemporary expression.

Their stylistic range stretches from hyper-photorealism to expressive painterly imagery. Visually, their influences span from the Old Masters to contemporary artists. They draw from the intense colors and visual diversity of our time, weaving together past and present—both conceptually and aesthetically.

Mona and Michael are driven by the challenge of translating complex topics into compelling, singular images—without losing depth, nuance, or the essence of the message. At the same time, they are passionate about crafting bold, cinematic scenes where a single illustration can unfold an entire story.

Their backgrounds complement each other: Mona studied costume and stage design, while Michael has a degree in communication design. These roots inform a shared visual language they call “painterly realism”—a vivid, detail-rich style that blends the power of reduction with the richness of intricate storytelling.

While they primarily work digitally, Mona and Michael also paint traditionally in oil, embracing the full spectrum of artistic techniques to serve each project’s needs.

Mona and Michael work across a wide range of fields: for newspapers and magazines, museums, theaters, NGOs, advertising clients, as well as television and documentary productions and are always curious to explore new territories.

Their client list includes renowned publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, The Guardian, Die Zeit, and Politico, among others.

Internationally recognized, their illustration work has been awarded by 3x3 Magazine and Communication Arts. They are members of the Society of Publication Designers (SPD).
