Jacquie Boyd was born in Jarrow in the north east of England and studied Graphic Design and Illustration at Newcastle and Lincoln. Her early career began in the advertising industry in London at the tail end of the magic marker and gouache era, and the pre-Mac hands-on fast drawing and colouring techniques have hugely influenced the style of both her fine art and illustration work.
Jacquie taught graphics and illustration at Newcastle College for many years before starting to paint and work freelance. She describes her work as fusing a style grounded in retro teenage comics and pop art with comments on contemporary culture. She produces her illustration work developing traditonally hand drawn linework with digital colouring, still loving the whole drawing process.
She is developing her own illustrated childrens stories aside from her commercial work, and has recently completed her first fully illustrated pop art style cookbook.
Jacquie’s clients include Adidas, Tatler, GQ magazine, Net a Porter, The Sunday Times, The Telegraph, Intelligent Life, Mental Floss,The Big Issue, Easyjet and Wizz Airlines, Psycologies, Instyle, Cosmopolitan, T3, Phoenix, Weightwatchers, Lighter Life, Imbibe and T3 magazines,Key Club USA, Hodder books, Brash Brands, McRea Books.
She has held fine art exhibitions of both her oil paintings and pop art acrylics at various London galleries including the Arndean and Artspace in Mayfair, The Coningsby Gallery, The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle, Customs House in South Shields, and The National Glass Centre in Sunderland as well as selling her fine art through Whitewalls galleries across the UK.
Jacquie’s illustration work was featured in Martin Dawber’s ‘Modern Vintage Illustration’ published in 2012.
Her dream jobs would include illustrating stories for graphic novels and childrens books, book jackets, illustrations for products and fabrics, and developing her stories for animation.
