Biography

Chuan Ming Ong (Ming for short) is an illustrator based in the Netherlands. His illustrations have appeared in publications around the world, and his work has been recognized by American Illustration, the Society of Illustrators, 3x3 Magazine and Creative Quarterly.

Illustration is where Ming’s early love for comics and art coincide meets his passion for history, books and languages. In a bold, colorful style influenced by the European and Japanese comics he read growing up, Ming loves making images that explore the possibilities of line and shape design but also clearly communicate ideas and stories on a conceptual level.

His clients include: The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Carnegie Corpora-tion of New York, LA Times, NPR, Dutch Resistance Museum Amsterdam, Leiden University Li-brary, among others.

Ming holds a BFA in Fine Arts (Drawing & Painting) from the Laguna College of Art and Design, and a BA in Japanese Studies and MA in Asian Studies from Leiden University.
