Oscar Wilson has been working with Canongate Books on the cover art for the postumous memoir of Gil Scott Heron entitled The Last Holiday. Oscar Wilson worked closely with the team at Canongate to create this iconic image of Gil made from selected poems and lyrics.
Gil Scott-Heron's Publisher and friend Jamie Byng said of the work:
“I think Oscar has created an iconic image of Gil and one that will become widely known and it makes the whole book come together beautifully. Words were so important in Gil’s life and he loved playing with them so having this image of him in which he is literally made of words seems perfectly apt especially for a memoir which is made up of his words”.
The book launches today and to coincide with the launch Oscar has produced a limited edition screen print available to purchase here.
