Louise Weir is a successful practicing illustrator who has a strong reputation within the Illustration industry. She has wide range of experience across Design, Advertising, Publishing and Editorial, working for clients in the U.K and worldwide.
Louise’s work examines and explores photographic reference to create her own worlds and also fresh interpretations of existing people and places. Producing highly unique portraits that project the character and personality of the subject within the painting.
The final images Louise produces are acrylic painting, however Louise has much experience in setting up and photographing props and models when clients need her to reference/depict specific people and locations etc within her paintings .
She has won a bronze award for the Self Promotion category of The AOI Best of British Illustration, a Merit in The Books Category of The 3x3 American Illustration Award and her work has been discussed in many anthologies and journals of Illustration. She regularly exhibits in group and solo shows in both the U.K and worldwide and her work is held in several private and public collections. Her current solo exhibition 'Expectations of the Past" which was supported by Arts Council funding has been very well received by the public and critics and has gained much exposure since starting it's UK tour in 2018, venues include The Dickens Museum London and The Showcase Gallery Southampton. She has recently been awarded further Arts Council funding to extend this exhibition and is devloping further projects that showcase her authorial work through self-publishing. Louise has worked on a variety of educational, community and charity projects including collaborations with The House of Illustration , The Barbican, Vivid Arts Europe and Heritage Lottery England, The Lithuanian Council for Culture, Latvia’s International Writers and Translators House and the Ministry of Culture of Estonia .
Louise Weir is a graduate of St Martins College of Art London and is Head of First year on the Illustration degree course at Middlesex University. She has recently recieved a Gold Arts Award and become a fellow of the HEA Academy.
